Ok, ok, maybe James Allen himself didn’t say everyone needs a “Melissa Shelf,” but as I was thumbing through my favorite books trying to narrow them down so that I could make a decision on my next book study, I came across this quote from James Allen’s, As a Man Thinketh,
“People are anxious to improve their circumstances, but are unwilling to improve themselves; they therefore remain bound.”
I thought, wow that is soooo true. So if James Allen was alive today, he would probably tell you to get a “Melissa Shelf.” You see, so many people talk about their dreams and desires, but yet few are willing to really do the work necessary to create and become that person. They are unwilling to be uncomfortable and step outside of their comfort zone in order to go where they’ve never gone before. … and so, they therefore remain bound to their same old circumstances and conditions that they have been complaining about for months and sometimes even years.
I have, however, been blessed to work with those who ARE READY and WILLING to do the work to grow and improve themselves. I feel like I have the best “job” in the world because I get the privilege to work with people and see them transform and evolve right before my eyes (or in many cases, right before my ears). It’s music to my eyes and ears! One of my most dedicated and committed clients sent me this photo of her “Melissa Shelf!!” I thought it was priceless and that everyone should have a “Melissa Shelf!”
WOW! Now that‘s a dedicated student of self-improvement!! She takes her most prized possession, HERSELF, and puts in the time and energy to become a better version of herself! I love love love it!!
Besides my dream of having a “Melissa Shelf” in every household, a bigger dream is that everyone see the value in investing in themselves and their growth. That everyone really see how important it is to put their time and energy toward their most prized possession and greatest commodity – THEMSELVES! It’s necessary for us to live into and from more of our true selves and that we continue to strive toward that better version of ourselves.
What do you see when you envision a better version of yourself?
When I visualize that better version of myself, I see the many more lives that I am positively impacting, I see the healthy relationships that I am cultivating, I see more places around this world that I am visiting, and I see my spirituality and connection to God growing and strengthening every day. In order for that to become my reality, I must continue to invest in my own self-improvement with my time, energy, and money.
How do you see yourself growing to become that which you envision? Are you willing to do what’s necessary to create and become that?
As the old adage goes “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Give yourself permission to get started. Allow yourself to give it all you got…. Don’t hold back! By all means, NEVER settle for a smaller version of yourself! Yikes, that gives me a stomach ache just thinking about it. You not only rob yourself, but also this whole world, from all the wonderful gifts you have to share!
So go out there and follow James Allen’s advice! Be ready and willing to improve yourself and YOU WILL BE FREE! … go get yourself a “Melissa Shelf!” 🙂
Keep Living the Dream!
